Another photogrammetry pipeline study with a Facehugger vinyl model kit.
Each piece of the kit was processed individually via a 24mpx DSLR, and more recently re-scanned with a 30mpx Canon R7, Tripod and lighting setup. Anywhere from 100-300 photos were taken with 3-6 rows around each individual part.
A big challenge on top of scaling and allignment matching, was the warped vinyl parts.
Because this was a bootleg vinyl kit, it was rather shrunk and warped, I had to do alot of re-work in Zbrush to make the body symetrical and make the tail segments combined more evenly scaled and segments alligned.
The raw scan was a good result, but of course needed not only scan result cleanup but again, poor vinyl cast cleanup.
I used reference from the origional alien facehugger to ensure that I was being faithfull to the film when making modifications.
The result is a high definition film or game ready result.
I did a basic texture pass in substance painter from scratch, just to give the impression of dead tissue.
